Description

Ploughshares Fund, the nation's largest publicly-supported foundation dedicated exclusively to fighting the dangers posed by nuclear weapons, has announced Ambassador Wendy R. Sherman, author Eric Schlosser and former Deputy National Security Advisor Ben Rhodes as the keynote speakers for Chain Reaction 2018 on Monday, June 25, 2018 at 6:00pm at SFJAZZ Center. The evening will also feature special words from, and a tribute to, former Defense Secretary William J. Perry for his lifetime of leadership on reducing the threat of nuclear war.

Right now we face rising tensions around the world and an unpredictable president with the authority to launch nuclear weapons without any deliberation or oversight from Congress, who is surrounded by what amounts to a war cabinet. Leadership and democracy are more critical than ever. Join Ploughshares Fund for an evening with some of the top experts and leaders who are working tirelessly to keep us out of nuclear war and moving toward a world where nuclear weapons no longer exist.

With a spotlight on the next generation of leadership and the issues they will face, Wendy R. Sherman, Eric Schlosser and Ben Rhodes along with Joe Cirincione will discuss the nuclear threats we face today, ways to defuse global tensions and promote peace in the current political climate.

The evening will also include a special tribute to William J. Perry, who served as President Clinton's Secretary of Defense from 1994 - 1997. As Secretary of Defense, Perry galvanized efforts to secure loose nukes inherited by former Soviet states and presided over the dismantlement of more than 8,000 nuclear weapons.

Chain Reaction 2018 will take place on Monday, June 25 at 6:00pm at SFJAZZ Center, located at 201 Franklin Street in San Francisco. The evening's program will include cocktails, hors d'oeuvres and a dessert reception.
