Description

Need a fresh perspective on what it means to be an American? Take a lesson from Harvard grad and Pink Martini band leader Thomas M. Lauderale, a guy whose music employs a veritable mixed drink (think Cosmopolitan) of sounds, resulting in a sort of international freeway where all the drivers speak different languages. The heterogeneousness is, of course, the point. “We’re very much an American band,” writes Lauderale on the band’s website, “but we spend a lot of time abroad…and have an incredible opportunity to represent a different kind of America through our repertoire and our concerts- that is, an America comprised of people from every country, every language, and every religion.” 1930’s era French jazz, Brazilian samba, and Middle Eastern raga are just a few of Pink Martini’s choice ingredients.
