Description
With hand-colored photographs not seen since the 1930s, Sam Watters will talk about the pioneer of garden photography and sign copies of Gardens for a Beautiful America, 1895-1935, Photographs by Frances Benjamin Johnston. Co-presented by the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art Northern California Chapter and the Garden Conservancy.The evening's speaker Sam Watters writes and lectures on houses and gardens, with a special interest in America at 1900. Educated at Yale University and the University of Marseilles, he has written articles, essays, and books on a wide range of subjects—nineteenth-century sanatoriums, cactus theft in the Mohave desert, photography of Hollywood, and the revivalist houses and gardens of Los Angeles. He lives in New York and Los Angeles.
