Description
A look at the photographer as alchemist, PVAC offers a glimpse at works of pre-digital processes and mediums in this revivalist exhibition of the arts through June 2012."The exhibit gathers 74 works and four installations from 59 artists across 11 states.
According to exhibit curator Hedwig Heerschop, who reached out to the artists, 152 pieces were eventually obtained for the show. A jury that consisted of San Jose State University photography professor Brian Taylor, Cabrillo College photography lab technician Janet Fine, and former Ansel Adams assistant Ted Orland, chose the works out of the 152 pieces that would eventually be shown at the exhibit.
The exhibit will display 21 alternative photographic processes, such as VanDyke, kallitype and tintype.
The processes can come from the most unexpected sources, such as the Purell transfer, which is one of the processes artist Tamara Danoyan works with. The Purell transfers is a process that involves coating photographic paper with Purell hand sanitizer, according to Heerschop."
