Belleville Outfit Singer-Songwriter Unveils Solo Debut
Austin, TX — Singer-songwriter-instrumentalist Phoebe Hunt just can’t stay planted in one spot for long, but she called California home while recording her self-titled debut EP in L.A. with producer Matt Rollings. She’s celebrating its release with a June 21 show at 8 p.m. at Amnesia, 853 Valencia St. in San Francisco’s Mission District. An Austin-to-Nashville émigré, the gifted Americana-pop artist is best known for her work with the Belleville Outfit. Before her four-year stint with that renowned Americana band, she toured with folk trio the Hudsons — while still a student at the University of Texas at Austin.
Hunt’s solo release, presented by Bigbean Productions and CMC (a division of Criterion Music Corp.), is propelled by her genre-jumping fiddle and sultry voice. Leaping easily from classic to modern and country to Western swing to jazz, gypsy and blues, she also shifts moods from playfully demure to seductive and intimate in the blink of a beat. But the quality that shines through most of all is her honesty.
Spending the past year in Nashville, Hunt honed in her songwriting skills and traveled with cellist and songwriter Ben Sollee. She also traveled to India, where she donated her time to a remote village school in the Bhatti Mines outside of Delhi, further expanding her understanding of Asian cultures. Compassion and grace inform Hunt’s ever-evolving world vision of music’s power to heal, and that vision has become the focus of her musical journey.
Whether solo or traveling with dynamic singer-songwriter-keyboardist Connor Forsyth (the Belleville Outfit, Ghosts Along the Brazos) and Austin folk-rocker Reed Turner, Hunt is an artist you need to know.
