Description

Musician/composer Phil Hawkins, an accomplished jazz drummer and one of the leading innovators of music for the steel drum, will speak on "Creating Something Now!"

His talk will include the process of music composition, being creative on a deadline, and the risks and rewards of a creative life. Book and CD sales and signing will follow.

Phil currently plays drumset with Latin Jazz legend Pete Escovedo.

He has produced two of his own recordings including "H2O," (2005) and "Sugarcane Suite" (2010), which appeared on the World Music charts for 22 weeks reaching #8.

He has composed over 40 works for steel drum orchestra, written four books on the subject, and recently finished a four movement work for steel band and choir that was commissioned by San Jacinto Community College in Houston, TX.

Free and open to the public. Parking $3.00 in Parking lots B, C, or D.
