Description
Peggy Stern is a pianist and composer. Her music draws a lot of influence from the Brazilian, African, Jewish, Irish, and Cuban cultures, as well as taking from European and American classical music and traditional jazz influences.Recently, Stern has became interested in jazz chorus since she sung in them when she was little. She started writing compositions towards that genre of music. One of those compositions. "Lunasea" was featured on the album "Brazilian Rhapsody" with Lee Konitz. She has released a CD, Actual Size, which also features two more of her Jazz chorus compositions.
Metro Jazz critic Andrew Gilbert describes her as, "a distinctive composer in her own right whose music draws deeply on classical training, love of Afro-Caribbean rhythms and idiosyncratic harmonic sensibility." She will be performing with "Sweet" Sue Terry, Chuck MacKinnon, Peter Barshay and Allison Miller.
