Immigrant culture is fascinating in how it takes prominent elements from totally different regions to create something new. Spaghetti and meatballs, for instance, was created in New York by Italian immigrants utilizing American ingredients. Bhangra music was first played in the '80s in England by first- and second-generation Punjabi immigrants (from the Punjab region of Pakistan and India). They took their traditional folk music and infused it with popular British rock and New Wave music. Today Bhangra borrows more from R&B and soul than it does rock, with singer PBN leading the scene. His urban beats and dance appeal give him a growing universal appeal the genre hasn't previously known.
