Description

Copresented by UC Berkeley’s Department of Art Practice Weisenfeld Visiting Artist Lecture Series

Chilean photographer Paz Errázuriz and UC Berkeley professor Francine Masiello discuss Errázuriz’s career, with particular attention to La manzana de Adán (Adam’s Apple) and Boxeadores (Boxers), the two photographic series on view in her MATRIX exhibition. The photographs in both series, made during the brutal military dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet, display Errázuriz’s deeply human approach to portraying people living on the margins.

Francine Masiello holds the Sidney and Margaret Ancker Chair of Spanish and Comparative Literature at UC Berkeley. She is the author of many books, including The Art of Transition: Latin American Culture and Neoliberal Crisis, which focuses on Chilean artists and writers of Paz Errázuriz’s generation.
