Our universe is large beyond our senses. We focus on our lives here on Earth, in our home, at work, on the train and in the car. Paula Rivas cannot ignore the universe. Her artwork exemplifies the universes that we can’t see, the connections between all of the planets that surround us and the land that we inhabit. She tells stories of space travel as if we were reading a book by Lewis Carroll. Instead, we read her sculptures – filled with astronomical calculations and colorful atmospheres. With pins and nails, Rivas indents her “land” with clusters of planets, creating a universe of color and growth for all living creatures.
