Patrick Dintino
Leisure Quest
June 16 – July 30, 2010
Opening Reception: Wednesday, June 16, 2010, 5:30 - 7:30 PM

“The significance of mere contemplation is a largely undiscovered ideal, complicated by the mass of information constantly thrown at us by popular media.” - Patrick Dintino

Andrea Schwartz Gallery is pleased to announce a solo exhibition for Patrick Dintino opening Wednesday, June 16, 2010. Dintino’s vibrant paintings and intricate collages explore how leisure and free time are valued and exploited in a consumer-driven culture. By sampling eye-catching colors from various leisure-driven environments, such as resorts and bars, Dintino creates seamless spectrum paintings with broad, blended bands of color. In Vacation, mesmerizing color combinations of blues, oranges, and yellows radiate from the painting emulating warmth and tranquility. In the collages, different facets of consumer culture, such as yachts, supermodels, and liquor bottles, pervade the imagery. Too Sexy for You, showcases the airbrushed, flawless faces of male and female models funneling downwards in an infinite spiral. By examining these concepts abstractly, the never-ending barrage of imagery and information that marks the Digital Age becomes glaringly apparent.

San Francisco artist Patrick Dintino received a B.A. from San Diego State University, and a B.F.A. and an MFA from California College of Arts. In 2000, Dintino was invited as a guest artist to work with Sol LeWitt to create “Sol LeWitt: A Retrospective” at SFMOMA. In 2003 he was a finalist for SFMOMA’s SECA emerging artist award and he received the prestigious Pollock/Krasner Foundation Grant in 2004.
