Description
New this year: Irish dancing, tango, flamenco, Mexican folkloric dances, Punjabi Folk dances... and public dancing on King Plaza!Palo Alto World Music Day is a music festival that takes places every year on Father's Day. All performances are FREE and open to the public. Amateurs and professionals, performed a variety of genres on street corners and plazas: jazz, blues, classical, pop, rock, choral, Celtic, Klezmer, Greek, Balkan, Indian, French, Chinese, World Music, etc. This event is not to be missed!
This just in from the seat of government in P.A.: “The Palo Alto City Council has declared Sunday June 20 as World Music Day.” I love that! And yet, we can’t figure out why people think Californians are elitists. To be fair, “World Music Day” is a real thing, begun in France in 1982, that challenges musicians around the globe to get busy around the summer solstice. It’s still pretty hilarious that the PACC gets to “declare” an event of such international-sounding proportions, but at least they go all out, with 50 musical groups filling the streets with jazz, pop, rock, classical, choirs and, duh, world music. - Steve Palopoli sanjose.com
