See more than 175 artists displaying the finest in hand-crafted glass and ceramic art at the 20th annual Palo Alto Clay & Glass Festival, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. July 14 and 15, 2012, at Rinconada Park, 777 Embarcadero Road in Palo Alto. Discover one-of-a-kind pieces of exceptional quality that are lovely additions to any home or garden. Select from innovative garden totem poles, whimsical ceramics, unique raku pottery, stunning glass sculptures and porcelain pottery, fun garden accents, hand-blown glass jewelry and more. Meet “green” artists who use sustainable practices and eco-friendly materials, such as solar-powered pottery kilns and recycled materials.
“Palo Alto is consistently the show that our artists look forward to the most for its beautiful setting and appreciative audience,” ACGA President Whitney Smith said. “For the past 20 years, the ACGA has been developing our relationship with the community, which has resulted in a group of educated glass and ceramic buyers, and our artists respond by bringing the best work they have to offer.”
In addition to the artist booths, there will be live art demonstrations starting at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday in the Demonstration Tent. Artist Susie Harper will demonstrate the art of glass bead-making from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, followed by Lynn Wood demonstrating clay hand-building from 2:30 to 4 p.m. On Sunday, artist Adi Braeman will feature glass bead-making, followed by clay wheel-throwing by Tom Decker from 2:30 to 4 p.m.
“Color the Creek” is a new, fun ceramic project open to all artists of all ages. White ceramic pieces, collected and tumbled by local artist Judith Content, will be available for painting. Finished pieces will be added to the landscaping entrance of the newly renovated Palo Alto Art Center. Additional pieces may be painted and turned into a pin or a magnet to take home. Organized by staff from the Palo Alto Art Center, the project will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.
ACGA is the nation’s largest non-profit membership organization dedicated to the advancement of ceramic and glass arts. Juried by their ACGA peers, the festival’s artists are widely acclaimed and many are internationally recognized.
Family-friendly Rinconada Park, across Newell Road from the Palo Alto Art Center, provides the perfect open-air setting for a relaxing weekend of shopping and collecting.
FESTIVAL HIGHLIGHTS:
• 175 Juried Artists. Meet renowned clay and glass artists, and get an insider’s look into the creative processes behind their work as you peruse their collections.
• Live Demonstrations. Watch raw materials turn into beautiful shapes at live glass and clay demonstrations starting at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in the Demonstration Tent.
• “Color the Creek.” The new “Color the Creek” project invites artists of all ages to create their very own ceramic pin or magnet to take home, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
• “Green” Artists. Meet artists who use sustainable practices and eco-friendly materials, such as solar-powered pottery kilns and recycled glass.

DIRECTIONS: Rinconada Park is easily accessible by public transit. Take Caltrain to the Palo Alto station, then catch Valley Transit Authority (VTA) bus 35 toward downtown Mountain View. Buses stop on the other side of the Park, along Middlefield Road in front of Walter Hays Elementary School.
