Palio D’Asti Toasts Sophia Loren With Half Price Wine All Month in Honor of Star’s September Birthday

Palio D’Asti, a bastion of all things Italian, thinks that Sophia Loren's birthday, September 20, is deserving of celebration and is offering lunch patrons a “Toast to Sophia” during the month of September with half price off all wine by the glass Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

“Sophia Loren may be turning 78, but the silver screen legend has definitely proven, that like a good wine, the older you get, the better. So we think she definitely deserves a glass raised in her honor,” says Palio owner Martino DiGrande. “At 50% off, we hope to encourage our guests to enjoy lunch Italian style.

Palio is known for its Wine Spectator award winning wine list of Italian and California varietals; with 18 by the glass selections evenly divided among whites and reds, and Italian sparkling choices. From a classic Umbrian Orvieto and Barolo Reversanti from Piemonte to wines from Campania, Sicily, and Napa Valley, DiGrande, the scion of an Italian restaurant family, is available to personally help pair lunch menu items with the perfect vino.

Palio has long been a favorite of downtown’s movers and shakers for its European style white tablecloth service and authentic, regional Italian cuisine that changes seasonally. Celebrating 22 years in business, the restaurant is an original member of Slow Foods San Francisco and utilizes organic and sustainable ingredients sourced from local farms and fishermen, as well as select artisan products including breads, gelato and chocolates.
