Outside The Frame

Paintings by artists Wendy FitzGerald and Midori McCabe are featured in “Outside
The Frame”, an exhibit opening on March 9th and running until April 3rd at Gallery
House in Palo Alto. While both artists are abstract expressionists, each has her own approach, and together they display very dynamic characteristics.
McCabe’s work is based on mixing cultural references coming from her life in Europe, USA and her original country, Japan. She observes and digests each culture, and then expressively translate it into an unique combination of color, form and movement. In this exhibition, we see how far she can go with creativity without borders. She cofounded "Art Intensive!" (based in Milan) with the Italian artist and writer, Antonio Mansueto (founder) in April, 2008 and has been actively showing her work in Europe.
FitzGerald works intuitively with no preconception and develops her compositions with a cubistic undertone. Repetitive shapes and transparency are applied to depict an illusion of multiple planes and ambiguity. Her compositions have an emphasis on the interplay of positive and negative space. FitzGerald’s art is intended to evoke unconstrained human potential. In addition to art making, FitzGerald is an art educator. She earned her BFA from San Jose State University.
A reception for the artists will take place at Gallery House at 6-8pm on Friday,
March 12th.
