Description
This concert is part of South First Friday, an eclectic evening of arts & culture in downtown San Jose's SoFA district, held every First Friday of the month. More at southfirstfridays.comBorn in the San Francisco Bay Area, saxophonist Oscar Pangilinan is emerging as one of the youngest and in demand musicians in the South Bay. Oscar currently serves as the woodwind instructor for the Alum Rock Jazz Band in the Alum Rock Union School District. His style and approach to jazz is greatly influenced by legendary jazz artists Coleman Hawkins, Cannonball Adderley, Dexter Gordon, and Sonny Rollins as well as contemporary artists Joshua Redman and John Ellis. His love for New Orleans Jazz, funk, and blues can also be heard in his playing as he draws in audiences with his smooth tone, lyrical lines, and complex rhythmic ideas. Oscar has been an instrumental leader both as an educator at Summer Jazz Camp, and as co-leader of the twice-a-month Jazz Jam at the Hedley.
