In keeping with their mission to activate the creative community, Public Works has invited artists to paint murals on the gallery facade for passerby and gallery guests to enjoy. Artists such as Banksy, Nils Thorsen, and Chor Boogie have been the first collaborators on the mural. A special silkscreening will also be held during the opening reception. Art-goers who arrive early with shirts, bags, and accessories can have artists Colin Burns and Eduardo Benedetto transform their goods into a one-of-a-kind art collectible. Save the date, this art celebration and club party is unmissable!
About Public Works Gallery
Public Works Gallery is a multifaceted event and community space in the heart of San Franciscos Mission District. Public Work consists of a performance and event space, art gallery, bar, artist work shop and community room. During the day artists conceive and produce work that will come to light as the sun goes down and the electronic and indie music scenes bubble up to fill this new home for the SF underground. From DJ oriented club parties and live bands to independent film screenings, performance art and random creative outbursts, Public Works is a hangout, a happening, an adventure.
The art gallery provides a space where the work of local SF based artists can mingle with both the up-and-coming art star and the budding savant, encouraged to show by one of the citys creatively oriented non-profits. With studio space at a premium in San Francisco, four artist residents will be afforded, at no cost, a daytime work shop that come evening transforms into a community room. These studio spaces will be available free of charge to neighborhood groups and other benevolent organizations.
Public Works encourages the growth of art and creativity in the Mission and San Francisco as a whole and is intent on providing a forum and a physical space for both. As part of their commitment to the Neighborhood, Public Works will donate a portion of proceeds to various local non-profits in addition to assisting these organizations with promotions and events. Root Division (www.rootdivision.org), a not-for-profit which brings art classes to kids in schools unable to afford such programs, is one current beneficiary.
