This funk-rock trio from San Jose brings the mellow vibe. Their instrumentals "Smokebreak" and "Backburner" are peaceful tunes with soul and traces of jazz. "Eagle Nebula" is a more upbeat classic '70s funk jam, with vocalists Obie Garcia and Noah McLean echoing off each other, while Kevin Arndt keeps a steadfast dancey beat. But in a departure, "Last Chivalrous Youth" has a strong punk influence, with just a hint of groove buried in all the distortion and sweaty energy. (Amulya Datla)
