Description
A merchant marine by day, Willow Glen-born artist and photographer Martin Machado looks to the sites of sea and harbor for inspiration. His travels have taken him all over the world, providing him with plenty of inspiration for his latest series exploring the disconnect between the local inhabitants of port cities in the developing world, and the rich Westerners who vacation and hide their money there. With a mixture of N.C. Wyeth's seafaring sensationalism and the line-work of late 19th century political cartoons, Machado creates evocative nautical portraits with an almost linear pointillism.
