Description

Seattle-based Celtic rockers Ockham’s Razor brings an exciting, youthful style of Irish and folk music. Founded in 2006, the band writes its own music and arranges traditional Irish and Celtic songs in new ways with fascinating techniques, developing a modern sound while containing the spirit and soul that make each song memorable.

Ockham’s Razor is a regular on the festival circuit throughout the Pacific Northwest, with its acoustic guitar, fiddle, tin whistles, accordion, mandolin, banjo, drum kit, djembe, electric bass and bodhran. The band has worked with acclaimed rock producers on its four albums, has been featured on in the CDBaby.com “Beer-Soaked Irish Rock” playlist and played on radio in Canada, the U.S., Ireland, Scotland, England and Germany.

The Blackthorn Tavern, a longstanding Irish pub in the heart of the Inner Sunset, has retooled in recent months with more free events and specials than ever, from Sunday afternoon barbecues and trivia to darts and pool competitions to live music and karaoke. Under new management since June, the Blackthorn retains its friendly, down-to-earth neighborhood appeal while adding more events, a photo booth, pinball machine and Golden Tee arcade game, not to mention a heat lamp on the outdoor smoking patio.

Blackthorn Tavern is at 834 Irving St., between Ninth and 10th avenues, in San Francisco. It is one block from Golden Gate Park, a 10-minute walk from the Academy of Sciences and de Young Museum. Blackthorn is just steps from the N Judah streetcar, in one of the city’s most vibrant neighborhoods.

“An emerald gem in the heart of the Sunset.”—SF Weekly
