Description

Oakland's International Womyn's (Women's) Day Festival - 2013 aims to draw attention to and highlight the power of women to overcome violence. In the past, International Women's day has been used as a vehicle for protesting oppression based on gender, sexuality and race. By bringing the celebration to Oakland, we hope to unite voices of the community in order to end violence against women and their families through sharing experiences and ideas.

The one-day festival provides a safe space where community groups and individuals are invited to provide information used to educate the attendees on issues related to power and survival for women, womyn, girls, people of color, trans and queer folk or anyone who identifies on that spectrum. Our hope is to bring broader attention to the way violence affects women using local and social media. thus reaching an even wider audience and instigating further positive change.
