Description
Oakland East Bay Symphony opens its 20th anniversary season Friday, Nov. 14, at 8 p.m. at the Paramount Theatre. In a program titled, “Cool Jazz, Hot Romance,” Maestro Michael Morgan conducts the world premiere of Zipperz, set to the music of Bay Area composer Nathaniel Stookey and inspired by the “zipper” poetry of Dan Harder; George Antheil’s avante-garde, short Jazz Symphony from 1925; and Serge Prokofiev’s suites from Romeo and Juliet, originally commissioned by the Kirov Ballet in 1935.Described by Stookey as “a story of love and sex, a breathless affair for two singers and orchestra,” Zipperz features the Symphony’s debut of previously announced actors/singers Eisa Davis, star of the Tony Award-winning musical Passing Strange, and Manoel Felciano, Broadway actor currently starring in Rock ‘n’ Roll at A.C.T. in San Francisco.
