Description

On Saturday, October 18, 2008 Craigslist Foundation will produce its fifth annual San Francisco Bay Area Nonprofit Boot Camp, sponsored by the David and Lucile Packard Foundation and Zazzle. Boot Camp is a unique community effort planned, produced, and promoted in partnership with over 100 local organizations. Its focus is simple— to educate, empower, and connect the next generation of nonprofit leaders and social entrepreneurs.

Nonprofit Boot Camp is already one of the most widely anticipated, well-attended, and established nonprofit programs in the Bay Area calendar. In 2007, Boot Camp attracted a crowd of over 2,000 emerging and established leaders and supporters for a day of workshops, keynote addresses, one-on-one coaching, and professional development. The program earned a 99.5% approval rating from attendees, making it the largest nonprofit gathering in Bay Area history for the fourth year in a row.

2008 participants will have the opportunity to choose between six Educational Tracks:

• Nonprofit Basics
• Fundraising
• Social Entrepreneurship
• Technology
• Big Ideas
• Lobbying & Advocacy

Nonprofit Boot Camp 2008 Highlights:

• Over 2,000 emerging nonprofit leaders, social entrepreneurs, and key sector figures
• More than 100 partner organizations, representing virtually every nonprofit management support organization in the
San Francisco Bay Area
• A choice of over 15 seminars, panels, and interactive workshops across 6 Educational Tracks, covering the essentials
of starting and running a nonprofit or social enterprise
• Appearances and keynote speeches from leading figures (Past Boot Camps have featured Van Jones of Ella Baker
Center for Human Rights, Reverend Cecil Williams & Janice Mirikitani of Glide Memorial, Ami Dar of Idealist.org,
and craigslist’s Craig Newmark)
• An Exhibit Hall featuring more than 50 organizations that support nonprofits and social entrepreneurs
• One-on-one Nonprofit Consulting and Career Counseling sessions
• Facilitated Networking and Community Lounge
• Greening strategies to reduce environmental impact
• Opportunities for participants to apply for grants through “Reality Grantmaking”

Thanks to the generous support of our sponsors and partners, the Nonprofit Boot Camp registration fee is just $75 per delegate.

ABOUT CRAIGSLIST FOUNDATION:
Founded in 2000 by Craig Newmark and others, Craigslist Foundation exists to provide knowledge, resources and visibility to the next generation of nonprofit leaders. We apply the spirit and values of craigslist to the nonprofit world; craigslist is about “people helping people”, while Craigslist Foundation is about “helping people help.” Craigslist Foundation is a publicly supported, non-endowed 501(c)3 operating foundation and, as such, does not award grants. Instead, the organization focuses on producing events and resources that benefit as many nonprofits, causes and people as possible.

ABOUT CRAIGSLIST:
In 1995 craigslist.org was born: a free, down-to-earth and self-monitored online bulletin board that revolutionized the ease and speed with which people could communicate, exchange goods and services, and create community. Originally started in the Bay Area, craigslist has become a hub for the wired community and one of the ten most visited web sites, spreading to 300 cities and over 50 countries across the globe. Each month, craigslist engages over 15 million people and receives more than 5 billion page views. With no advertising, no commercialization, and only word-of-mouth promotion, Craigslist has become a phenomenon. And it’s still 99.9% free.
