Description
Beauty is in the ear of the beholder this week as Noise Pop Festival takes over NightLife for an evening that explores the science of ear candy. In the Piazza, catch a live DJ set from Northern California’s own !!! (pronounced chk chk chk, for those in the know) as they spin an ear-pleasing mix of their signature dance-punk stylings.
Plus, check out opening act Dawn Golden, the solo project of Dexter Tortoriello of the band Houses, inspired by doom-metal, downcast electronic.
Join art students from California College of the Arts for an artistic interpretation of how animals hear in the wild.
In the Coral Reef, jam to the ethnically-inspired beats of Awesome Tapes from Africa. Plus, learn what goes on in your brain while listening to your favorite song (a neat process called polyphony) with Stanford grad student Madeline Huberth.
At the Project Lab, lend your ear to Academy scientists Rayna Bell and Thea Whitman as they share frog calls and sounds from around the world. You won’t want to miss adorably big-eared animal specimens, too!
