Description

"New music from an old tradition" - SFJAZZ
"A magnet for local Indian classical musicians" - SF Chronicle

Dubbed a "local treasure" by SF Classical Voice, Gautam Tejas Ganeshan sings classical Carnatic music with distinction, innovation, and an inimitable personal style. His performances feature original compositions adorned with the extensive improvisations for which South Indian classical music is known, delivered in chamber ensembles with a traditional rhythmic rapport and a life of their own.

Gautam has performed at the SFMOMA, Yoshi's, SFJAZZ, Freight & Salvage, Zellerbach Playhouse, among others, and has led workshops at the Asian Art Museum, SF Conservatory of Music, UC Berkeley, Stanford Jazz Workshop, and more. He was awarded the Creative Work Fund for new work in 2013, and was commissioned for "New Directions in Indian Classical Music" in 2008 by the San Francisco Foundation.
