Description
San Jose State University professor of mathematics Dr. Tatiana Shubin will participate in a Q&A with filmmaker George Csicsery about his documentary Navajo Math Circles. Shubin is one of many math literacy teachers featured in the film who have been working with Navajo children in rural and underserved parts of Arizona and New Mexico. The documentary calls attention to the connections between Navajo culture and math. As Shubin movingly puts it, "Navajo culture is really based on the idea of beauty. And mathematics is all about beauty." The film also screens April 28 at Stanford University. (JE)
