National Beauty, the latest performance at the City National Civic, is a window into the sublime elegance of Chinese culture through the art of dance. Using a patchwork of Chinese symbolism—bamboo painting, calligraphy and tea ceremonies—National Beauty is akin to a cascade poem, fluid and effervescent in presentation, colorful and dreamlike in aesthetic. Performed by the world-renowned China Oriental Song and Dance Troupe (the primary performers at Shanghai Expo 2010 and the China Pavilion, Milan Expo 2015), National Beauty makes its San Jose premier Sunday.
