Description
Performance artist Naina Shastri and visual artist Salma Arastu collaborate on a show that uses Indian classical dance, poetry, video projection, and live music to connect 13th-century Persian mystic Mevlana Rumi and 16th-century Indian saint Meera Bai, who both spoke of finding salvation in love.Featuring:

With over 20 years of experience as a performer, choreographer, and teacher of the Mysore style of Bharatanatyam dance, Naina Shastri runs Ushanjali School of Dance in the East Bay. Naina, a RAW residency artist at SAFEhouse and artist-in-residence at OACC, was chosen to perform at the APERTURE Festival in 2016.
East Bay visual artist Salma Arastu practices Eastern spirituality through Western techniques of painting using mixed media. She’s had over 30 years of experience, 40 solo shows, and three books published, and she’s a recipient of the East Bay Community Foundation’s Fund for Artists award and the City of Berkeley Individual Artists grant.
