Description
Learn Hebrew from scratch at JCCSF this Summer! Levels I-V offered with Matinee & Evening class times available. Instructor Nirit Zach is a native Hebrew speaker with a background in journalism, cooking, travel and language.Level I - Begin with learning how to read, write and pronounce the the alefbet (Hebrew alphabet). Combine letters into simple words to engage in beginning conversation by the end of the 8 week session.
Level II - Build your vocabulary and learn the basic skills for day-to-day conversation by focusing on listening and responding in Hebrew. Topics include numbers, colors, household items, essential conversations like time and directions, and present tense verbs.
Level III - Build on previous knowledge. Improve your reading comprehension, increase your vocabulary and practice conversations about travel, foods, and getting to know people. Begin to learn the past tense. Designed to be taken for more than one session by students with some reading and writing proficiency.
Level IV - Increase proficiency by learning more advanced vocabulary and how grammar influences meaning. Topics include shoreshim (word roots), the future tense, binyanim (verb forms) and idioms. Class takes place mostly in Hebrew and uses basic native Hebrew sources to discuss wide ranging topics, including current events and Israeli culture.
Level V - Engage in in-depth Hebrew reading and conversation in this class conducted entirely in Hebrew. Focuses on fluency using Israeli newspapers, music, stories, film and other Hebrew sources. Designed for students with high-level speaking and writing skills.
