Description
If you want a little intellectual stimulation this Valentine's Day, look no further than MIT neuroscientist Sebastian Seung's illuminating discussion on his new book, CONNECTOME. Seung reads from CONNECTOME and discusses his bold theory that our identities are not determined only by our genes, but by the connections in our brains. He highlights the science of Connectomics, and describes the work his team is doing to better our understanding of brain disorders like autism and schizophrenia and normal brain functions like memory, processing, and intelligence. He also discusses the launch of his “citizen science” website in February. Similar to the SETI project that allowed users to search the skies for artificial intelligence, Seung’s site will allow scientists and non-scientists alike to use their home computers to trace the paths of neurons in the brain with colors and participate in the exciting process of discovery. Q&A and signing to take place following the discussion.
