PHOTO Fine Art Photography is hosting our first print fair. Please join us for an intimate look at six of our photographer's portfolios. This is a unique opportunity meet the artists and to buy and take home original prints.The six PHOTO represented artists are Ari Salomon, John F. Martin, Peter Tonningsen, Harold Davis, Chrstine Federici, and Lynna Jean. Their work encompasses many genres and varies from exquisite hand-developed black and white process, to digitally manipulated pigment prints, from dramatically orchestrated portraits to irreplaceable right-place-at-the-right-time street photography.
Artist Biographies:
Peter Tonningsen is an Alameda artist who has shown his work in many solo shows in the Bay Area. He has been featured in numerous publications such as Lens Culture, Lenswork Extended, The Globe and Mail, Fraction, Lenscratch, and The Photo Review. He currently teaches at Academy of Art in San Francisco, and has taught at San Jose State and the San Francisco Art Institute in the past. Peter's work was selected for the Hahnemuhle Anniversary Photo Award and Collection in 2009.
Ari Salomon was born in Israel, raised in San Diego and now is based in San Francisco. He graduated from U.C. Santa Cruz in 1993. He is both a photographer and a graphic designer. He is an active member of Bay Area Photographers Collective, His work has been in many Bay Area exhibits and his panoramas were featured in a solo show at SFMOMA Artists Gallery in 2009.
John F. Martin published a private commemorative collection of photographs, Amy Tan’s Bonesetter’s Daughter, the Opera. His photographs were included in the show of the Sacred Arts of Haitian Vodou at UCLA Fowler Museum (catalog) and are in its permanent collection. He John has taught at Academy of Art University. In 2010, he was awarded a fellowship to attend Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. He has been a commercial photographer for more than 30 years.
Harold Davis grew up in Manhattan and studied painting at the Art Students League, Bennington College, and elsewhere. Davis opened a studio in New York, where he was part of the art scene in the 1980s, with artists including Basquiat, Schnabel, Kostabi, and Haring. During this period Davis exhibited widely, including a solo show at Arras Gallery in New York, and an exhibit at the New York Historical Society. Davis worked as a commercial photographer specializing in jewelry and architecture. He now combines his love of painting with photography using digital techniques to enhance his imagery. Davis is the author of more than fifteen bestselling books about his innovative techniques.
Lynna Jean discovered a passion for silver gelatin printing at the University of San Diego where she graduated with a Bachelor's degree in English. Further study at Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara enabled her to see light in a whole new way and cultivate her technical skills. She has been shown in group shows at Rayko in San Francisco, and at L. Nowlin Gallery, Austin, Texas. Her work has been published in European Photography Art Magazine, One Life Photos, and in the Photographer's Forum Best of Photography Annual.
Christine Federici had a career as a modern dancer and teacher for 25 years. When her dance career ended she turned to photography as a means of artistic expression. She works with a variety of different subjects: nature, portraiture, and abstraction as well as dance and performance. She studied photography at the Academy of Art University and is a film-and-darkroom photographer exclusively. She has twice been a guest artist at Project Artaud for San Francisco Open Studios and participated in East Bay Open Studios. She an active member in the Bay Area Photographers Collective.
