This event is 21 and over
SunsetSF and our friends at Euphonic Conceptions are proud to present the San Francisco stop on the Pretty Lights Music label tour. Headining what should be a terrific night of music is electronic production phenom MICHAEL MENERT. After producing Pretty Lights first album, and touring with him for several years, Menert has emerged from the "shadows" to see his own notoriety explode in the past year. Eschewing the growing trend of brain-melting noise in EDM, Menert's music is far more measured, tasteful, and sample-based. Like label mates PL, and Grammatik, there's something extremely funky and "musical" going on that elevates his sound above beats and bass. BREAK SCIENCE elevates itself through the live talents of its bandmembers, master-drummer ADAM DIETCH (Jon Scofield/Lettuce) and BORHAM LEE (Lauren Hill). Break Science is the perfect collaboration of a rhythmic architect and a tonal engineer who together never fail to ride a room over the hump.

Michal Menert

Michal Menert was born in Kielce, Poland, in 1982, while the country was under communist rule. As a young child, he and his parents fled to the United States by way of West Germany, becoming political refugees. During his childhood, Michal's father exposed him to a wide variety of Eastern and Western music, giving the boy fertile soil in which to plant his musical visions early on. Coming from a musical background of playing guitar, keyboards, and dabbling in a variety of other instruments gave Michal a unique approach to composing his own musical style. He co-produced the debut Pretty Lights album, "Taking Up Your Precious Time" and has collaborated with Derek Vincent Smith on a handful of tracks since then. Currently he is releasing a solo album, entitled "Dreaming of A Bigger Life" on prettylightsmusic.com. His sound combines samples from both Eastern European and Western vinyl with rich analog synthesis and organic, hard hitting beats. It is a fusion of yesterday's elements and tomorrow's dreams.

Break Science
The Brooklyn based electronic duo, Break Science kick off 2012 with the release of their second EP entitled Monolith Code (Pretty Lights Music). As seasoned producers and touring veterans, Adam Deitch and Borahm Lee have produced and performed with everyone from The Fugees, Wu Tang Clan, and Talib Kweli, to reggae legend Lee Scratch Perry and Miles Davis collaborator, John Scofield. On Monolith Code, Break Science evokes a wide spectrum of electronic genres filtered through a musician's lens, all while moving people spiritually AND on the dance floor.

"Monolith Code is the innate message we have to decipher to get to the next step in our evolution" says Lee. "The monolith represents a transition into a higher level of consciousness. A spark that initiates us to consider wider possibilities and ideas. The code is the system to express this transformation. Containing information from the past, present and future, it holds the key to unlock our potential as spiritual beings."

Adam Deitch describes the musical process behind the record. "We understand that to bring our vision to life, we have to spend just as much time on the programmed elements as we do on the live elements. Our goal is to blend these elements seamlessly, so everything comes together in an organic way. Our music is layered with different frequencies and sonic textures so it becomes something you can listen to multiple times and STILL hear new elements you might have missed the first time. We are influenced by everything from hip-hop and glitch, to jazz, soul, vinyl drum breaks and dub. We like certain elements of dubstep and drumstep (especially that BASS) and try to incorporate that sound in a fresh, new way."

Break Science is poised to make their biggest mark yet onto the burgeoning livetronica scene. Joining forces with a movement of new electronic artists on the Pretty Lights Music label, this potent duo will continue to push the boundaries of modern music.
