Description

Downtown Menlo Park plays host to the Menlo Park Sidewalk Fall Art Stroll Friday and Saturday, September 28-29 from 10 am to 6 pm and Sunday, September 30 from 10 am to 5 pm. This 22nd annual art-filled, family friendly event gives visitors the opportunity to browse and shop among many one-of-a-kind creations lovingly crafted by a variety of talented artists and displayed in the charming atmosphere of downtown Menlo Park.

Taking place along Santa Cruz Avenue off El Camino Real, the Sidewalk Fall Art Stroll is free to the public and features an exciting array of original works by more than 50 artists and craft makers including paintings, jewelry, photography, unique wood items, clothing, accessories, toys and more. All of the artists will be on hand to visit with patrons while some will be demonstrating their craft during the show. Among the works to be displayed at this year’s event:

Textiles
Each piece in Susan Griffin’s collection of “wearable art” is an original that cannot be exactly duplicated given the variables of fabric, wool, dyes and embellishments used. Her collection of scarves, blouses, jackets and more are made with wool, silk and nuno-felted pieces, a process of overlaying superfine wool fibers on natural fabric, such as silk, linen and scrim thereby creating a fabric unto its own. Susan only uses super-fine merino wool or wool batts that may contain a variety of wools such as merino, cashmere and mohair. Embellishments such as silk threads, silk ribbons, merino yarn, vintage lace and silk pieces are then added for texture, sheen and color.

Glass Home Accessories and Jewelry
Gila Sagy’s passion for art, color and culture blend as seamlessly as the fused glass pieces she creates. “The many colors and textures of glass make fusing so fascinating for me,” she says. “Nothing can replace the excitement of creating beautiful color combinations with glass.” Her creations, which range from photo holders, jewelry, wine bottle platters and more are all original, unique and one of a kind. Everything is made of glass pieces in multiple colors and textures. The process of firing in the kiln fuses all of the individual pieces together, culminating in Gila’s elegant art pieces.

Jewelry
Kathleen Bonte creates jewelry that is lightweight and easy to wear—with a tactile beauty that delights the senses. “Buttery bits of leather that have been tooled, embossed and stitched, supple suede that begs to be touched, the sumptuous beauty of silk, the industrial geometry of a zipper and a flash of reclaimed metal,” she says as she describes her delightful creations that include pendants, necklaces, earrings and bracelets. All of Kathleen’s jewelry is handcrafted using recycled and repurposed materials.
