In 2010, mountaineer Melissa Arnot’s climbing partner died on the mountain, leaving her to descend alone. In 2013, Melissa negotiated three climbers to safety after an altercation broke out between them and more than 100 sherpas at 23,000 feet. She is also the cofounder of The Juniper Fund, which provides a better safety net for Nepalese mountain workers who are killed or injured while working.
