Maurice Tani and George Cole together redefine their musical genres in fresh, intelligent and vibrant forms. In a very special collaboration on the Yoshi’s stage tonight, these two iconoclastic artists promise a thrilling evening of contrasting and complimentary musical colors as Americana tips its collective hat to “Eurocana”.

Maurice Tani, of the acclaimed group 77 El Deora, is consistently hailed for his highly literate alchemy of traditional music forms: wide screen ruminations ranging from rye to romantic, blending a broad set of genre-stretching influences from country, jazz, and blues to film scores, gospel and classical music. He then flash freezes them into an Americana melange dripping with rural soul, along with bassist Mike Anderson (a past associate of George Cole’s), drummer Ken Owen (fresh from recent work with Buddy Miller and Emmylou Harris), popular jazz pianist/composer Randy Craig and special guest vocalist Pam Brandon.

George Cole is writing a new American Songbook. His melodies and lyrics, breathtaking vocals, and guitar virtuosity evoke the dynamic styles of Gypsy jazz and swing a la Stephane Grappelli and Django Reinhardt, and "Hot Jazz" with an acoustically flavored French string-driven sound. Influenced by the great composers of the swing era like Cole Porter and George Gershwin, his exciting band threads together the material to create a riveting synthesis of Eurocana flair. Joining George Cole, who dazzles on vocals and lead guitar, are the other members of Eurocana: Jenefer Taylor on vocals, Nick Christie on rhythm guitar, Jeff Chambers on upright bass, and Echae Kang helping to knock the music right out of the stratosphere on violin.

This one-of-a-kind performance showcases the two different ensembles in alternating numbers throughout the evening which accentuate and highlight their individual talents. You won’t want to miss the festivities as Americana meets Eurocana to delight and transport you during one stunning, seamless show. Bioette: George Cole and his band's style of music, dubbed “Eurocana”, is a celebration of the great American songbook with inspiration from Gypsy Jazz. The band draws from the dynamic string-driven swing created by Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli in 1930s Paris.
