When it comes to technological innovation, the Bay Area is a global leader. That's thanks in no small part to the can-do spirit of so many locals. The 12th annual Maker Faire honors Silicon Valley's DIY mentality with exhibitions, demonstrations and workshops on building, hacking, coding and cracking. New this year is an area focused on the future of food. See if you have a palate for insects, learn about vertical greenhouses and sample super foods from around the world. Also at the Faire: medical tech makers, "Lockpicking 101," and robots, of course.
