Description
Very popular with kids and parents alike, Naturalist Anthony Fisher returns to ELSEE to lead us in creating an elderberry flute. Bring the kids!Journey from branch to flute while learning about other traditional uses of elderberry in Native California. This iconic flute is not so hard to make, but quite challenging to play! Everybody goes home with a flute and an appreciation for human ingenuity.
Anthony says, "The shrubby tree called Elderberry Sambucus mexicanum was a general store for California Indians. The branches have been used for bows, arrows, spears, musical instruments and fire starting. Roots leaves and stems were used for medical purposes, and the fruit eaten fresh, dried, or cooked."
The Workshop fee is $30. For members of the California Native Garden Foundation (CNGF), the cost is $25 and a 10% discount on any plant purchases. (Join CNGF at the workshop for $38 and save $10 on this class and 30% on workshops all year!)
Parking is available on Race Street, side streets, St. Leo's parking lot, and in the Food Basket parking lot on Garland.
