Description
Back in early '90s, funk-metal ruled the Bay. Most of those bands filled clubs, but their sweaty, manic energy didn't translate to records. Primus made the leap because they were so weird. Mr. Bungle did because they were even weirder. But the other bands, like Fungo Mungo, who always put on a super fun goofy, funk show, fell flat outside of the Bay Area club scene despite scoring a record deal. The Limbomaniacs, a raunchy funk-rap group, released one modest record before dissolving. Out of their ashes emerged M.I.R.V, whose sound was less funky and more quirky-heavy-alternative. They flirted with mainstream radio and MTV briefly, but had staying power in their native NorCal. - Aaron Carnes sanjose.comMore Info
