Description
During the late '70s, the embers of punk took a turn for the eerie. Pioneers infused their raw songs with a chilly melancholy, wallowing in insecurity and heartbreak, and tapping into the longing angst of the young folks. The style faded and the emotions bifurcated into more grungy or electric sounds. But Love District seeks to resurrect and modernize this influential period. Composed of San Jose natives Chris Pounders and Alex James, they cultivate a "forgotten sound for a new generation." Their single, "Manchester at the Hacienda," illustrates an immersive evening of dancing in an abandoned factory, laying atmospheric licks above skittering drums. (JF)More Info
