Description
The acclaimed Belgian filmmaking team of the Dardenne brothers had taken home the Palme d'Or from Cannes for two earlier films, L'Enfant and Rosetta, and their most recent, Lorna's Silence, left Cannes with the Best Screenplay award. Arta Dobroshi stars as Lorna, a young Albanian immigrant earning citizenship status through a false marriage with a financially-desperate junkie named Claudy (Jérémie Renier). Her ultimate aim is to open a café with her boyfriend Sokol (Alban Ukaj), also in need of residency papers, but mobster Fabio (Frabrizio Rongione), who set up Lorna's citizenship scam, already has other plans for her: marriage to a Russian Mafioso who's ready to pay cold, hard cash to get his hands on Belgian identity papers. But what do they do with Claudy, and how long can Lorna remain silent? Continuing the Dardennes' exploration of young people stranded on the fringes of society, Lorna's Silence delves into the moral and spiritual dilemma of the title character.More Info
