Description

In honor of Black History Month, Tabard Theater presents their Bay Area premiere of "Looking Over the President's Shoulder." Written by James Still, the play is based on the memoirs of Alonzo Fields, who served as chief butler at the White House for four administrations.

Educated, charming and classically trained musician, Fields wanted only to become an opera singer, but because of the Great Depression, his dream was put to a halt. In 1931 he took a temporary job to support his family but unfortunately he had to stay doing it and he thrived for 21 years observing the residencies of the Hoovers, Roosevelts, Trumans, and Eisenhowers. He even got to witness many famous guests like Winston Churchill, his idol Marian Anderson, and Errol Flynn.

Staring James Creer as Alonzo Fields. Directed by Tabard Associate Artistic Director Doug Baird, who previously directed Creer in the company's take of Driving Miss Daisy.
