Description
In the latest comedy of manners from French actor-director Agnès Jaoui (The Taste of Others), Jaoui stars as Agathe, a feminist writer-turned-politician who returns to her childhood home in the south of France to help her younger sister Florence (Pascale Arbillot) sort out their mother’s affairs. Free-thinking and a tiny bit bossy, Agathe grudgingly agrees to take part in a documentary being made by Karim (Jamel Debbouze), the son of her family’s Algerian housekeeper and an aspiring filmmaker whose big mistake is to collaborate on the project with local layabout and self-styled journalist Michel (Jean-Pierre Bacri, Jaoui’s longtime writing partner). The subsequent entanglements of romance and class signal a possible emotional downpour on the sunny, bucolic setting, and when Agathe’s life hilariously unravels, the camera is there to capture it all. In French with English subtitles. Writers: Agnès Jaoui, Jean-Pierre Bacri. Director: Agnès Jaoui. (France 2009) 99 min.
