Description

Alto saxophonist Lee Konitz has enjyoyed one of the most creative and prolific careers in modern jazz. After early experiences with the Claude Thornhill Orchestra (arranged by Gil Evans), Stan Kenton's Orchestra, the innovative small groups of Lennie Tristano, and the Miles Davis Capitol Orchestra, Konitz turned freelance and has remained on the cutting edge of post-bop improvisation ever since. The association between Konitz and Minsarah began some years ago. It started in Cologne, Germany where Lee split time between there and New York City for close to 20 years. He met this international trio of German pianist Florian Weber, US American bassist Jeff Denson, and Israeli drummer Ziv Ravitz at concerts in Cologne and was immediately won over by them. The four of them worked on and off in both Europe and the US and recorded their first quartet CD, "DeepLee," for Enja Records in Brooklyn, NY. Lee soon felt that he had found simply perfect and exciting partners for his music - partners which together could push new boundaries in jazz, through group interaction and compositional improvisation. They are now touring to promote their latest recording "Lee Konitz New Quartet: Live at the Village Vanguard."
