On Tuesday February 19, at 7 PM, in the Live Oak Senior Center, 1777 Capitola Road, Santa Cruz, the Monterey Bay Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society will feature a program by Yuri Panchul, a leading Bay Area camellia grower who lives in Sunnyvale.Yuri Panchul’s program will be about
1. Overview of the history of Camellia culture in Japan, China, Europe, US and Australia
2. Camellia species and cultivar groups - japonica, sasanqua, reticulate, higo and others.
3. Link with tea (Camellia sinensis)
4. Unusual camellias - yellow, dwarf, summer blooming, variegated, etc.
5. Differences between camellia and rhododendron culture (soil, fertilizer, sun tolerance, ultimate size, etc.)
