LEARN ABOUT A NEW BOTANICAL GARDEN IN CALIFORNIAOn Wednesday, January 18, 2012, 7:30 PM, at the at Room 12 of the Hillview Community Center, 97 Hillview Av., Los Altos, the De Anza Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society will feature a program by Tim Walsh on A Year in the Humboldt Botanical Garden, a young Public Garden.
Tim Walsh will present a year in the garden in his photo essay of the Humboldt Botanical Garden, a young garden located in Eureka, California, that is off to a flying start with plant offerings not often seen in most gardens today. One of the long term goals of the garden is to acquire and maintain the all of the rhododendrons that comprise Rhododendron Series Maddenii, which tend to grow like weeds in the misty northwestern coastal climate, as well as in Sunset Magazine Climate Zones 15, 16, and 17. Many hybrids of Maddenii Series rhododendrons were hybridized in the Bay Area.
