Description
PEERS presents Le Mardi Gras des Vampires, a Mardi Gras costume ball set in mid-19th century New Orleans, at the historic San Mateo Masonic Lodge ballroom. After a dance lesson at 7pm, the celebrated Baguette Quartette plays an evening of elegant French vintage ballroom dance music, including an exquisite mix of waltzes, polkas, schottisches, mazurkas, Les Lanciers and other popular mid-Victorian couple and set dances (both French and English), as well as the ever-popular Congress of Vienna Waltz and the new South American imports Le Tango and La Samba. As usual, all set dances will be briefly taught or called at the ball, partners are not required. There will be a pre-ball vintage dance lesson at 7:00 pm, including 19th century rotary waltz and polka, vintage samba, and the turn of the century one-step tango.Suggested attire is period costume (especially 18th and 19th century costume), fantasy or Mardi Gras costume and vintage and modern evening dress are also welcome. The event includes a no-host bar, a light snack buffet (your potluck contributions are welcome), and a special half-time performance by the Theater of the Vampires.
