"… a soulful stamp on a huge swath of American music." – Boston Globe

Lavay Smith and her Red Hot Skillet Lickers dig deep into the Kansas jazz tradition with their tribute, Swingin' the Blues: The Kansas City Sound. Smith's bluesy vocal style is right at home with the music pioneered by Jay McShann, Count Basie, and numerous territory bands of the 1930s that defined the Kansas City Sound and the swing era. The Red Hot Skillet Lickers include some of the Bay Area's best musicians: Chris Siebert – pianist/arranger, Nat Johnson – bass, Howard Wiley – drums, Freddie Hughes and Big Bones – vocals, Danny Armstrong – vocals/trombone, Jules Broussard – alto saxophone, Robert Stewart – tenor saxophone and Mike Olmos – trumpet.
