Description

In Roy Lichtenstein's Studio, an exhibit of work by New York photographer Laurie Lambrecht, will open at Corden|Potts Gallery on March 30 and run through May 22. A reception for the artist, which will be open to the public, will take place on Saturday, April 17, from 2 to 5 pm.

Corden/Potts Gallery is located at 49 Geary Street, Suite 211. The gallery is open 11 am to 5:30 pm Tuesdays through Saturdays, and until 7:30 pm on the first Thursday of each month.

Lambrecht's vibrant images not only represent the artist's studio, they evoke the spirit of Lichtenstein's Pop Art images. "Walking into Roy Lichtenstein's New York studio in the spring of 1990, I entered the artist's visual world," Lambrecht said.

"On the studio walls were large, nearly finished paintings, one boldly referencing Picasso," Lambrecht continued. "On expansive tables his resource and reference materials were readily accessible: elegant Italian sketchbooks juxtaposed with simple composition notebooks containing clippings from comic books and advertisements. Jars of paint, cans of assorted brushes, boxes of colored pencils, sheets of striped and dotted papers were all within sight. There were endless layers of things to visually captivate me, and to capture Roy the renowned Pop artist at work."

"His innovative transformation of public culture into groundbreaking art pushed me to focus my lens on imagery that would express the experience of his particular genius," Lambrecht said.

Laurie Lambrecht's work has been exhibited in galleries and museums around the world. She has shown her work in solo exhibits at the Lishui Photo Festival in China; galleries in London, Los Angeles and New York; and the Griffin Museum of Photography in Winchester, MA. Her work has been included in group shows at the Houston Center for Photography; the Parrish Art Museum in Southampton, NY; and the Society of Photographers, Johannesburg, South Africa. Her work will also be featured in a solo exhibit during FotoFest in Houston in early 2010. Lambrecht's work is included in the collections of the Parrish Art Museum; the Guild Hall Museum, East Hampton, NY; the Sysco Collection; and NYU Medical Center.
