Description

Late Nights With The Boys: Confessions of a Leather Bar Chanteuse, by Alex Bond

A quote from the book sums things up:
"In 1977 when Anna was singing in the gay leather bars of Dallas with her friend Mario, she was invited into a Fairytale Land of Queens and Princesses and Lizards and Twinkies. She entered a Far Away Land where the sex was rough and the décor was flawless, where self-esteem was low and everyone on the dance floor was high. She dove into the Land of Two Identities where everyone had two names and two personas: one for day, one for after-dark. She has been to Never Never Land, and she has shared laughs and tears and Poppers with the lost boys there. She lived there for almost two years, and they were the best years of her life."

This presentation is a reading (with two readers) of selections from Alex Bond's book "LATE NIGHTS WITH THE BOYS: confessions of a leather bar chanteuse".

ALEX BOND (author, reader) is an actress, comedienne, playwright, lyricist, dresser, and now a novelist. She decided at the age of seven that she was going to live her life so it would make a good book. Now, thoroughly exhausted, she has started to write it all down. Her essay "Where Nowhere Can Lead You" was recently published in the Hastings Center Report. She is delighted to be in San Francisco and honored to be reading "Late Nights…" again with David. This is for Leon and Mossberry!

DAVID CARSON (reader) has been a 'native New Yorker' for 32 years. As a member of Metropolitan Playhouse he has acted in or directed more than 25 productions and workshops over the last 15 years. He has acted and/or directed for Reverie Productions, 78th St. Theatre Lab, Bombshell, and many other New York theatre groups. With the NYC Int'l Fringe Festival he performed Michael Bettencourt's mono-drama MINE EYES and appeared in Danny Ashkenasi's opera BEOND. He directed the original production of Jeffrey Solomon's MOTHER/son. David just completed a supremely successful run as Manolo Costazuela. in the THE ODD COUPLE - The Female Version at The Northeast Theatre in Scranton, PA. One of his passions is the development of new material, so he thanks Alex for the opportunity to read with her again. And thanks, always, to Barry.
