When Santa Clara Valley Brewing opened in 2015, CEO Tom Clark declared that San Jose needed more breweries. Four years later, downtown is beer-soaked and SVBC is closing its doors. Friday is last call for the brewery. Over the course of its short lifespan, SVBC racked up numerous awards, including a silver medal at the 2018 Great American Beer Festival for its Alviso Mills hefeweizen. Clark and his partner Steve Donohoe named their beers after Santa Clara Valley locations and landmarks; their flagship Electric Tower IPA will be pouring until the bitter, hoppy end.
